Four Things We Want to See in the Spider-Man PS5 Release

The rumor mill has been spinning and speculation is rampant over the release of a potential sequel to the genre-defining 2018 Spider-Man game that we all know and love. According to the experts of Reddit and the insiders over at Games Radar, a new Spidey sequel could be hitting the shelves during the 2021 holiday season.

This would likely mean that the game would an exclusive PS5 release, meaning that any true Peter Parker fans who don’t have their hands on the console by then will likely be rushing to get one. Although facts are virtually non-existent at the moment, we thought it would be fun to air out own wishlist for the game, in the hopes that the good people at Sony Interactive Entertainment are looking for some tips. Here’s what we want to see in the next Spider-Man game.

1. A Richer, Larger Open World

Of course, the virtual Manhattan where the previous game takes place is an artistic and technical marvel. However, while swinging between the towers of Park Avenue is a beauty to behold, there was still a nagging sense that the open-world could have been sketched out in more detail. More buildings that you can actually enter would help enrich the world, as would extending the map beyond the confines of Manhattan and into Brooklyn and, of course, Queens, where Peter Parker actually lives.

2. Options for Online Gameplay

This one is something that virtually all fans can agree on. Sure, the plot of the first game was engrossing, but there was literally no option for any kind of online gameplay. A chance to complete group missions with online friends a la Assassin’s Creed would go a long way, as would the opportunity to actually fight other players in online deathmatch or competitive team playing setups. Just something to think about for the future.

3. More Minigames and Side Missions

There were plenty of side quests in the original game, but we couldn’t help but feel that more variety could have gone a long way. The rich and detailed lore of Spider-Man makes it rife for the inclusion of mini-games, in the same vein that Batman and Mario’s titles now include mini-games in the form of races, slot games, and collectible missions. Consider the variety of games offered on online casino sites like NetBet UK, where there are hundreds of themed slots, table games, and even live online casino games. If the next Spider-Man game offered the same level of variety to distract players from the main story, they would be on the right track.

4. More Complex Boss Fights

Yes, the boss fights in the last game were visually appealing, but that’s about all they were. Despite having to face-off against a diverse array of enemies, each with their own unique powers and skillsets, every boss fight was pretty much exactly the same. Simply dodge when needed, throw as many webs as you possibly can, and wait for the right moment to land a QTE attack. In the next game, we’d like to see more of a focus on combat combos and a boss fight system that rewards ingenuity and creativity, rather than button mashing.

If the next Spidey game has these elements, we’ve pretty much got a perfect game on our hands. Watch this space to find out more as it unfolds.
